The world’s largest caldera

Mountain Elgon is not only one of the oldest volcanic mountains in Africa but also surrounded by forests, inhabited by mammals and birds.

The main peaks from the shattered wall of a collapsed central caldera at 8km in diameter, said to be the world’s largest which contains glacial lakes and hot springs.

Being in the north eastern Uganda, mountain Elgon also offers numerous caves, cascading waterfalls that enchant you as you enjoy your hike to the Wagagai peak and the caldera.
